When the doors of Fairfax & Roberts on Sydney’s George St first opened in 1858, a journey of luxury bespoke jewellery began. Originally focussed on watchmaking, we soon made our name as creators of fine jewellery – exquisitely designed and crafted objects that were destined to become treasured possessions, and heirlooms, of Australia’s finest families. Our maker’s mark was registered at the Assay office in London and our hand-crafted pieces still carry that stamp today – a mark that speaks of heritage, quality and authenticity.
Much has changed in Sydney since the first pieces of bespoke jewellery emerged from that workshop 165 years ago. What has not changed is the expertise, precision, and passion of our master craftspeople - employing skills that have been honed and perfected over time to create luxury jewellery for discerning customers.
165 years since our inception, our family-owned company continues to design and create hand-crafted jewellery. Based in our in-store workshop at the heart of Sydney’s luxury shopping district, clients have the opportunity to sit down with a Fairfax & Roberts’ designer who then creates with a team of master jewellers, diamond setters and custom gemstone cutters, a bespoke piece that captures a moment for both its intended recipient and future generations.
Our team of artisans - with more than 100 years’ experience between them - work collaboratively to create spectacular new items of luxury jewellery as well as remodel or repair treasured family gems and heirloom pieces. Each team member is intimately involved in the process to ensure that every item that leaves the workshop is the epitome of creativity, luxury and quality.
From engagement rings to gifts celebrating an anniversary, promotion or birthday, a piece of Fairfax & Roberts hand-crafted jewellery can make a statement of style or a whisper of timeless elegance. For 165 years our jewellery has been worn by members of Australia’s most revered families and our tightly-held tradition of excellence is set to continue for decades to come.
