Forty years ago, a young woman arrived in Australia from Poland, keen to start her life in a new country, rich with opportunity. On the eve of their 22nd wedding anniversary, her husband commissioned our designers and artisans to commemorate this milestone with a hand-made custom jewellery piece that would symbolise the joining of her two homes.
Polish art has a rich heritage of floral designs and Fairfax and Roberts’ in-house designer paired the poppy, Poland’s national flower, with the wattle that is Australia’s floral emblem. The poppy symbolises the strength and resilience of the Polish people, while the wattle, known for its hardiness, also represents resilience and fortitude. Both blooms also evoke the joy of summer, celebrations and new love.
Once the initial designs for this unique, custom necklace had been created, they were presented to the customer for feedback and approval before the in-house team of experienced artisans began to bring the piece to life.
Pavé-set rubies were hand-placed to create the vivid petals of the poppy, and yellow diamonds and golden sapphires were used to create a dazzling spray of delicate wattle stems, with foliage crafted from white gold. The finished pendant was paired with a David Yurman Lexington Chain of yellow gold and diamonds to complete the anniversary gift.
Our in-house workshop means that clients have access to the creative and production team throughout the process and are able to talk directly to the artisans making their custom jewellery.
Fairfax & Roberts can custom-cut and carve precious gemstones and this is usually done by our expert cutting team in Idar-Oberstein, Germany. Occasionally, we will need to source our unique gemstones on the international market and, depending on availability, this can mean that a bespoke item takes longer than the usual 8-12 weeks.
